a scary thing

Have any of you been looking at "I'm not boring you, am I?" It's one of the blogs linked on the left there. I read it the other day, and those of us in our little group with children should read it and be THANKFUL that this is not happening to us! At least, not to my knowledge. To summarize, Robert posted about Reflex Anoxic Seizures, which it appears his youngest daughter, has. Their daughter was born shortly after mine was, so both Mary and I were waddling around the university at the same time. They've known for a while that their daughter will hold her breath until she passes out, apparently when provoked or annoyed or if she hurts herself. But now it seems it has gone to a new level; shortly before Christmas they actually thought she was dead. Read the blog for details.

Robert and Mary, if you read this -- I can't imagine how scary that must have been, and I hope she NEVER does it again! Wishful thinking, I suspect, but it can't hurt.

My oldest went over to a friend's house to play in the snow this afternoon, so I got to spend the afternoon having some quiet time with the little one. Her newest game is to climb in the back of her sister's Tonka dump truck and make little "brum, brum" noises. She wants me to push her around the house. And not stop. Ever. In fact, every time I did stop (to catch my breath, usually) she had a minor temper tantrum! Ah well, I still enjoyed the chance to devote my attention entirely to one child. It's tough when they both want attention, particularly now when they've had almost two weeks of two grandparents and one parent nearly full time doting on them and then WHAMO holidays are over and it's back to one parent who has to do chores and other things as well, and simply CAN'T dote on the kids 100%! Well, that's life. Doesn't mean I (or they) have to like it.

Thanks to everyone who hosted us during our recent visit; we had a great time! Other than being a bit hungover on New Year's Day, everything went well. And btw, I strongly recommend children's Tylenol for hangovers! Thnx, Tina!

I was just reading through the comments on my last post (mainly re: eye surgery) and I also have heard very good things about the Gimbal clinic. I may try that. The budget is a little tight, however; everything we want to spend money on this year costs (approximately) $3000. And some of those things are not optional; for instance, property taxes! So I think the laser surgery may go on hold, particularly since I've just dropped WAY too much money on a new pair of glasses. We'll see, if the fence comes in cheaper than we think (unlikely) then maybe.

So it's back to work for most of us this week (those of us who were lucky enough to have time off, that is). It is very Christmas-like around here; a white covering of snow on the ground; crisp, cool air (-20 or so), and beautiful brilliant blue skies. It could be worse!
