wonderful new comment system

Love Haloscan comments, just wish I could read 'em all!! For some reason in my preview of my template changes everything is just hunky-dory, but from my actual blog page -- nuttin happens. Doh! Not sure if it is my blog page that is screwy or if it is just my computer. Anyone care to email me and let me know they had the same thing happen?

SIGH!

Just re-reading my previous post -- I hope everyone knows that it's not the nudity that I'm offended by, it's the lack of respect that the use of the picture signified that really bothered me. I've stopped reading newspapers because of it.

Enough of that; only one real piece of news -- my baby has a TOOTH! After months of thinking "any day now" she actually has her first tooth. 1 1/2 weeks before her first birthday. Now maybe we can get on with the business of REAL food :-) I don't think there is anything else of real interest (and most of you probably won't be interested in that, anyway). Oh ya, our basement is painted (one coat, needs another) and we get carpet on Wednesday, yay. 'Twil be nice to get the computer, cats, and various boxes OUT OF MY ROOM and move the "entertainment stuff" (ie kids toys, tv, couch, xbox, etc. etc.) downstairs. Not looking forward to moving it all, however! Gotta be done.

I'm cooking up a storm today; spaghetti, turkey soup, pumpkin bread. It's kind of comforting. No matter what I do lately I always seem to feel tired, so it's nice to kind of putter around and not worry about the mess or the painting that needs to be done or the paper that needs to be written -- and yet I'm still being productive, which my brain needs in order to not stress out even more :-) Yes, I'm weird.

Ok, I'm going to see if I can get the Halo commenting system to work!

I'm disgusted

So, folks, just came back from a whirlwind trip to Ottawa. Left Wednesday afternoon and returned Friday morning. Kind of nice to have a break from the kids, but I was so busy and so stressed out that it wasn't very relaxing. Plus I stood around a lot feeling lonely (one of those networking events that I absolutely detest). I know I should just go and strike up conversations with people, after all, I'm certainly not the only one who didn't know anyone there. But I hate it so much, and I am still getting over a cold so I was never sure if my voice would actually work each time I opened my mouth. Poor me! Whine whine whine :-)

So what I'm disgusted about is this: on friday morning the Globe and Mail and various other newspapers carried a picture, on their front page, of a man holding a child, presumably his own, and presumably dead. The poor man was distraught, understandably, and the child looked to be anywhere between 6 and 10 years old, give or take. Ok, fine, tear-jerker, grabs the attention of the jaded public, but what really bothered me is that the child's naked back and buttocks were exposed.

How degrading, to be paraded about partially nude across the world's newspapers just to sell a few more issues. Not that the child was in any position to care, but I was offended that the photographer and newspaper editors had so little respect for the dignity of the man and his child, and for human life in general, that they would use this simply to grub a few more dollars.

I wanted to give you a link to the photo so that you could judge for yourselves, but I can't find ANY copies on the internet. Makes me wonder if I'm not the only one who didn't like it!

That's my rant for today; cya...
